Aligning daily routines

Are you acting in a way that supports or goes against your values?

Example

If you had discipline as a Personal core value, and found that you regularly just snacked whilst watching TV, rather than preparing healthy food, you may consider how to plan your meals to be healthy but still fit your work and leisure commitments.

Core values as a decision-making filter.

Whenever a significant decision is to be made, you can consider how it impacts on your personal core values.

Example

If integrity is important to you, then you might support your child in completing their homework, rather than doing your child’s homework for them to save time.

Goal formulation

You can create goals that align with your core values. You can also ensure that your goals meet at least one of your top five values.

Core-value-focused example

If development  is important to you, then you might explore creating one or more goals for regular growth experiences.

Goal-focused example

If you are creating a goal for more income and considering taking on a greater workload, and you had values of family, empathy, health, freedom and creativity; then you might benefit from planning your workload in consideration of your values.

Personal boundaries

By clearly understanding what matters most you, it is easier to consider situations from a personal core values perspective.

Example

You are in your workplace and notice a colleague bullying another colleague. One of your values is integrity, another is compassion. When deciding what to do about what you have seen, your values help you consider what action (e.g. report – vs – ignore) sits best for you.
