EMDR works very well within a hypnotherapy practice. Originally designed to help address traumatic memories, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) facilitates the accessing, processing and resolving of disturbing memories and unpleasant life experiences, whilst addressing negative beliefs and unwanted body sensations about past and future events and promoting supportive positive beliefs. EMDR is a highly useful tool for any professional hypnotherapist.
Example: Say you get hit by another car whilst crossing a junction. No major injuries, just some bruises, which will heal over the next few weeks until you cannot even see where they were. Your brain ‘heals’ in the same way. You may be upset initially, and then talk to friends and colleagues about the event, and without even thinking about it, learn any lessons, file away useful information, and process any relevant emotions or sensations. This way, when you look back at the event a few months or years later, it is just remembered as an unpleasant experience.
For some, they are not able to process the experience (fully or at all), and it may continue to intrude in everyday life. For example, there may be negative beliefs such as “I am powerless”, or “I cannot trust anyone”, there may be body sensations, such as feelings of tension, or a heightened emotion, such as anxiety. This may have unwanted intrusions into a person’s life, such as when approaching a road junction, a person may go into a state of fight/flight and be aware of a heightened state of anxiety, yet also less able to focus on their driving.
Due to recent events, the landscape of hypnotherapy has changed and more therapists than ever before are working online. Our EMDR training course has been enhanced to reflect this and now includes training and techniques specifically for online applications, and the best way to learn and practice online techniques is online.
The EMDR course has now been expanded to three days, although the price will remain at the standard two-day rate until further notice.
The first two days of training are live online, via Zoom, where you will learn about EMDR, the use of EMDR online and how to apply the standard protocol and how to adapt it to suit a range of client needs. This is a highly practical weekend and makes full use of Zoom breakout rooms. You will then be able to practice and use the standard protocol. In addition, you will be able to engage with the activities and discussions in the private EMDR Facebook group.
The final day of training is in person. Here you will learn more about the face-to-face applications of EMDR, together with advanced techniques including resource development and future pacing. There will also be plenty of practical work to develop your in-person EMDR skills and deepen your understanding.
If you only wish to attend the online element, then you may. You will receive a certificate of attendance. The workshop price is the same, whether you choose to attend the third day (in person) or not.
Eligibility: The course includes some hypnotherapy practical work. If you do not have hypnotherapy experience, please send us a message before you book.
The majority of this EMDR course is practical and you will be expected to participate, both giving and receiving EMDR. You do not need to have experienced trauma to participate. You are requested to focus your own experience on minor issues. If you wish to work through a significant trauma, please address this in therapy outside of this workshop.
